In one engagement, he destroyed fourteen British tanks and vehicles in a span of fifteen minutes. His Tiger was eventually destroyed in Villers Bocage during the Battle of Normandy. Exactly how he was killed has never been fully discovered and historians have mixed opinions as to his tactical performance in battlesome praising his actions at Villers
