Invented by cartoonist Rosie ONeill around 1909 and quickly becoming an international sensation including in Australia where this particular example would have been manufactured given the style and type of 9ct marks to the verso. Crafted from 9ct rose gold which would have been originally fire gilded over the 9ct rose gold in order to give it a buttery matte yellow
